WHEN CAPTIVE IS CAPTIVATING...
(Los Angeles, CA) MAY 27, 2009 — Part of Ian Saudē's Andaman collection, his Cage Drop earrings feature loose faceted semi-precious beads that move freely in a brushed gold cage, which dangle from a detachable solitaire stone hook. Stones include brandy citrine combined with sky blue topaz, smoky quartz or amethyst. Custom stone combinations are available upon request.
"This collection was inspired by a diving trip I took to the Andaman Sea. There is an exquisite underwater nature preserve with an abundance of sea life," explains designer Ian Saudē. "I was struck not only by the stunning variety of plants and animals you find there, but also by the immense creative power of nature to manifest so many shapes and colors, textures and forms without ever repeating them — each one was unique. That infinite capacity for novelty and beauty is fascinating to me as a designer."
"For these earrings, I wanted to showcase the color and luster of the stones in a more three-dimensional way, to capture light from all angles instead of just from the front of the stone," explains Saudē. "The cage structure lets the stones to be seen from every angle and allows for sea-like movement. They look stunning on a woman especially when her hair is short or pulled back — even when they are only lit from the back or the side."
Priced from $1925, Cage Drop earrings and the Ian Saudē collection are available at www.iansaude.com Broken English in Brentwood, California and at Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry in San Francisco and Menlo Park, as well as other fine jewelry retailers.
