CAPRI — BLURRING THE LINE BETWEEN ART AND NATURE

(Los Angeles, CA) September 5, 2008 — A magnificent necklace of natural keishi-style pearls. The impressive coral-motif pendant is detachable and is fashioned by hand. Both the pendant and ball closure feature precious stone pavé . Executed here in rose gold with blue-green sapphires, Capri can also be special ordered in yellow gold with fancy sapphires or diamonds.

"This collection was inspired by a diving trip I took to an exquisite underwater nature preserve on the Andaman sea," explains designer Ian Saudē. "Everything is protected there, and you can't take any momentos home with you. So I wanted to create a few pieces to remember this beautiful place. "

"I'm often fascinated by natural, organic textures and forms. Nevertheless, I'm not a big fan of driftwood sculpture or coffee tables made from redwood burls!" he adds jokingly. "So for this piece, I wanted to mimic the natural beauty of coral in a way that wasn't too literal — to add to nature without complicating it, creating something organic but chic at the same time. I love the way that living coral can have different colored branches tangled together, so I pavéd sapphires in soft hues over some of the branches to recreate that variation and effect."
