IAN SAUDE CREATES IN CHOCOLATE, CAFFÉ AND CHAMPAGNE – DIAMONDS THAT IS!
(Los Angeles, CA) November 7, 2008 — They may not be the colors one thinks of when picturing a classic diamond, but warmed-toned diamonds ranging from the softest 'sparkling' champagne to rich 'hot' chocolate diamonds, are the tones that inspire designer Ian Saudé to create his striking bejeweled rings, earrings and necklaces.
"I find the color of these stones to be more subtle, and frankly, more sensual, than ordinary white diamonds. Also, thanks to their natural warmth, they harmonize better with the luster of yellow and rose gold than the traditional white diamond," explains Saudé. "And while they are very beautiful and still have that incredible brilliance associated with diamonds – they are also more affordable."
Several pieces in Saudé's new jewelry collection feature natural colored diamonds. The Pirouette ring features a garland of shaded white, caffè & mocca pavéd diamonds that gently spiral around a floating south sea chocolate pearl. Meteor Demi earrings are golden half-hoops scattered with mocha pavé. Saudé's stacking rings are encrusted with micropavé in solid colors like caffè, black and white or in diamonds shaded from mocca to white set in 18K rose, yellow or white gold bands. Fleurette earrings are meandering garlands of bright, tiny flowers composed of black, mocca, champagne and white diamonds, juxtaposed with the glow of natural baroque pearls. And the dazzling Reine earrings' champagne and mocca pavé orbs are suspended from a graduated strand of bezel-set diamonds.
As with colorless diamonds, champagne, cognac and chocolate diamonds come in different qualities and clarities. The 4C's of color, cut, clarity and carat weight still apply, except the intensity of color, not lack of it, plays a greater part in the valuation.
"I look for colors with natural intensity and we use at least S.I. quality, but generally we prefer to use V.S. quality and above," Saudé explains. "Though the quality I like best about these diamonds is their ability to flatter any skin tone and how they are a wonderful contemporary-looking complement to the neutral colors commonly found in designer fashion – beige, white, taupe and chocolate brown. They are also fantastic when mixed with white or black diamonds. I've always been drawn to rich neutrals – they are my favorite goto color palette of choice."
Popular with celebrities, champagne diamonds have adorned such illustrious names as Cate Blanchette, Hillary Swank and Cameron Diaz. Jessica Biel recently wore a pair of Ian Saudé 'Piave II' 18k gold shaded white to chocolate diamond hoops at the 2008 Rome Film Festival (Click for an image of Jessica Biel in Chocolate Diamond Earrings).
