The origin and final destination of everything made is ultimately the unmade. Since everything that is fabricated originates from and will at some point return to an unfabricated natural state, empty space is not just empty — it is the mother of all possibilities. Acknowledging this natural relationship between space and objects is a key framework for creating clean contemporary design. What is left out of a design is often as or more important that what has been included.

ACCENTS

  • An elegant wooden box or a graceful vase, A lacquer tray or a pair of gilt candlesticks.  A bronze statuette or a carved paperweight.  Objects such as these are used to order and organize our lives, and, these same items say something about who were are and where we have been. Acting like talismans, they conjure memories and associations that mark our passage through life.

  • It is strangely true that by simply gazing at an object, we feel something.  It can even make us excited or depressed.  This isn’t really the object’s fault, however. Instead it has to do with the meaning we have imbued to it.  Notwithstanding that fact that how an object speaks to us may be more of a matter of our own projection than of the object itself, there is always an undeniable association between the two.

  • Choosing to surround ourselves with objects that amplify our positive thoughts and feelings may not be as shallow as it first may seem.  We love to design objects that solicit a restful but uplifted sensibility from the people who have interacted with them.  Sometimes just seeing something beautiful can elevate or soften our mood in the matter of an instant.  Designing or possessing objects like these are often its own reward.

ARTISAN FURNITURE

  • So much furniture these days is designed to be disposable or to meet a pre-ordained price point to insure a quick sale rather than lasting quality. Planned obsolescence is a testament to the fast pace of modern life and our fickle tastes and fleeting attention spans. Nevertheless, at IAN SAUDE we believe that by making furniture with intention and care, by hand and from materials that matter, a piece of furniture can also be a functional work of art.

  • Our approach to creating fine accent furniture is focused on high-quality materials and time-honored methods of hand craftsmanship. Nevertheless, we are also inspired by technology and innovation. By marrying newly developed and age old materials, high tech machinery and handicraft, we seek to create pieces that are truly contemporary but expressed in a way that is part of history rather than at odds with it.

  • At IAN SAUDE we believe that good design should also be accessible. Reflecting that belief, our work with furniture spans various audiences — from high end pieces commissioned by designers to functional pieces for hospitality, where factors such as volume, performance, timing and budget are always in play.

THROWS & BLANKETS

  • In this age of artificial fibers and performance textiles, there is still something undeniably appealing about handmade fabrics crafted from authentic, natural fibers that retain their original organic appeal. Therefore, at IAN SAUDE we focus primarily on natural yarns and colors, supplemented by creative looming, dying and finishing techniques to lend them a unique point of view..

  • When channeling the extraordinary properties of luxe fibers like cashmere, silk and linen or when combining them with modern plant-derived synthetics like modal or bamboo, comfort is always our primary consideration. Our throws must not only look good, they also need to feel good. They should convey a sense of nurturing and reassurance — while still being fun to use and wear.

  • Working for decades in the Himalayan Cashmere industry, Ian has not only developed his own branded collections but over the years has also spearheaded numerous private label projects for other respected designers. Having worked on a wide range of styles in woven and knits, his primary focus remains on styles that express a rustic and understated but luxurious quality.

TABLETOP

  • Just like any other piece of art, an exceptional culinary creation deserves a great frame. Our artisan tabletop offerings not only elevate the everyday dining experience by providing an elegant frame for something delicious — they also create a visual and tactile experience the can turn the fleeting pleasure of a good meal into a cherished memory.

  • While we offer an ample range of distinctive patterns and profiles tailored for the aesthetic needs and practical demands of everyday use at home, we also offer collections tailored to the needs of larger commercial hospitality applications like hotels, restaurants, wineries, caterers and event professionals.

  • From our own hand-crafted stainless serving pieces to artisan glassware and ceramics from our favorite brands, every piece is imbued with a palpable quality and weight. The final result is a product of lasting beauty that is also highly resilient —  resisting chips, cracks, stains and breakage — as well as being dishwasher safe.
